Surreal Hotel - Hospitality Design
This was my concept proposal for a hotel experience inspired by the surrealist art movement. The task was to create a unique new way to work, rest and play in a ‘staycation’ environment. I chose to do this through the theatrical lenses of the Saul Steinberg and Inge Morath ‘Mask Series’ in which hotel guests create their own paper mask and experience the hotel through masquerade which removes the realm of self-consciousness with individual appearance and directs users to encounter the interior of the space in a fun and quirky way. My interiors were inspired by the known ‘lost female surrealist’ Leonora Carrington with different areas drawing inspiration from her various works whilst incorporating traditional aspects of surrealism through geometry, colour, texture and dimension in the spaces.
